What Happens When a Tree Falls on a House in Tampa?

Get everyone clear of the tree and anything it rests on. If a limb is on a power line, call the power company first.

Then send us photos of the tree and the damage. Keep a set for your insurance company, taken before anything moves.

We start with the weight on the roof or the tree across the driveway. The rest of the removal follows. Roof repair goes to a roofing company, and they can start once the tree is off.

Storm Damage Tree Removal with a Crane and a Tracked Lift

A big tree on a house comes off in pieces. We cut it in sections, and our crane lifts each one off the roof. The crane sets them in the yard or the street, where the crew cuts them down to size.

Split trunks and hanging limbs come down on ropes. Our tracked lift reaches the limbs hung up over the house. Back yards behind a gate get our compact machines, which fit through the opening.

Once the tree is on the ground, we chip the brush and haul the wood away. The stump can wait. When you are ready, we grind the stump below grade.

Hurricane Cleanup and Storm Debris Removal in Hillsborough County

Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30. We did storm work after Hurricane Ian in 2022. Idalia came in 2023, and Helene and Milton hit Tampa Bay less than two weeks apart in 2024.

Milton brought gusts of 80 to 100 mph across Hillsborough County. Most of the county got 10 to 15 inches of rain. After Helene and Milton, unincorporated Hillsborough County had over 4.8 million cubic yards of debris to collect. The county called the cleanup the largest debris collection in its history.

The wood and brush from our jobs leave on our trucks. HOAs and property managers can ask about storm cleanup across a whole property. Tree trimming before June takes deadwood out of the canopy.

FAQ

Storm and Emergency Questions, Answered

Common questions about storm and emergency around Tampa and north to Crystal River. If yours is not here, call or text and ask.

Call (813) 293-2948

How soon can you get here after a storm?
Call or text (813) 293-2948 and we tell you when a crew can be there. Storm season fills the schedule fast. Photos of the tree and the damage help us plan the job before we arrive.
Do you work with homeowners insurance?
We have worked with homeowners insurance companies on storm jobs, and we document the damage before we cut. Your policy and your adjuster decide what is covered. Florida's Department of Financial Services tells homeowners to report a claim quickly and take pictures of the damage.
A limb is on a power line. Can you cut it?
That is the utility's job first. Call the power company and keep everyone clear of the line. The City of Tampa tells residents to report a line downed by a fallen tree to Tampa Electric. Once the utility's crew deals with the line, we take the tree down and haul it away.
What does emergency tree removal cost?
It depends on the size of the tree and where it landed. A trunk on a roof that needs our crane is a bigger job than a pine across an open yard. Access for our machines and the amount of debris count too. Call or text for a free estimate, and we put it in writing.
Will Tampa or the county pick up the storm debris?
After big storms, both send crews to collect storm debris at the curb. Tampa asks for separate piles, and its crews will not cut up a large tree. Trunks and big limbs go out in 4-foot lengths, and stumps over 100 pounds stay behind. Tampa's curbside yard waste pickup is for waste the resident makes, so we haul the debris from our own jobs.
Does every storm-damaged tree have to come out?
Not always. UF/IFAS Extension notes that trees that lose some or all of their leaves in a hurricane are not necessarily dead. It also notes that pines can look fine after high winds and still die later. If a big oak took a hit but still stands, an ISA Certified Arborist can assess it.
