Tree Removal
We take down dead and leaning trees of any size, with our crane when a tree hangs over the house. The brush gets chipped and the wood hauled off before we rake the yard.

You bought five acres off Gunn Highway, and the fence line is lost in Brazilian pepper and vines. A big laurel oak leans over the barn. A pine on wet flatwoods ground starts to tip after a soaking storm. That is tree work in Odessa, a place of lakes and big lots on the Hillsborough and Pasco county line.
A Sharper Image Tree Services is based in Tampa with a second shop in Homosassa. We come up from Tampa on the Veterans Expressway, then the Suncoast Parkway or Gunn Highway. In Odessa we handle tree removal, tree trimming, palm trimming, stump grinding, storm cleanup and land clearing. Call or text (813) 293-2948 for a free estimate.
Tell us about the tree, the lot or the structure and where it is. We look at the job and put the estimate in writing.
Odessa's one ZIP code, 33556, crosses the county line. Census maps put a bit more than half its land in Hillsborough County, mostly the area the Census calls Keystone. North of the line, around State Road 54 and Starkey Ranch, you are in Pasco County. Which side your lot sits on decides whose tree rules apply.
In Pasco County, native trees over 5 inches DBH, the trunk diameter 4.5 feet above the ground, need a permit. Palms and non-native trees are exempt, and so are pines other than longleaf pine. Each permit starts with a replanting requirement. Pasco has no lot clearing permit of any kind.
In Hillsborough County, a yard tree 12 inches DBH or larger on a single-family lot needs a permit. On a vacant lot outside a subdivision, the line drops to 5 inches. An oak 34 inches DBH or larger in good condition may be a protected Grand Oak. Brazilian pepper and camphor need no permit at any size unless they grow in a wetland.
Hillsborough County's Keystone-Odessa Community Plan aims to keep this side of Odessa rural. It calls for one home per five acres unless otherwise permitted, and it supports ranching and horse facilities. The plan favors board and wire fences over walls, and it backs private barns on small farm properties.
On acreage like this, the job is often land clearing along a fence line or around a pasture. Our compact track loader with a brush cutter takes out underbrush and Brazilian pepper. Bigger trees come down in sections, and we grind or pull the stumps. We chip or haul the debris and leave the ground cleared.
On a vacant Pasco parcel, trees that need a permit wait for an address and a site development permit. Hillsborough County requires a land alteration permit before land is cleared. Clearing within 25 feet of a gopher tortoise burrow needs an FWC permit first. We clear once the permits are in place, and we can help you figure out what your county needs.
The median home in ZIP 33556 dates from 2005, by Census estimates. About one in seven went up in 2020 or later. Keystone, the Hillsborough side, is older, with a median build year of 1999. On the Pasco side, Starkey Ranch, a community on more than 2,400 acres, is still growing.
NRCS soil maps put about a third of both sides on Myakka, a poorly drained flatwoods sand. Its native cover is longleaf and slash pine over saw palmetto. Wet low spots hold cypress and pond pine. Lake Rogers Park, off North Mobley Road, holds a forest of oak and pine.
UF/IFAS gives a laurel oak a life span of 50 to 70 years. A water oak lives about 30 to 50 years and can break apart from rot. When one leans over a roof or a barn, we take it down in sections. Live oaks rank among the most wind-resistant trees, and our tracked lift handles live oak trimming over roofs and drives.
Hurricane Milton came through on the night of October 9, 2024. The National Weather Service put Hillsborough County's top rain total, 18.82 inches, near Westchase, south of Keystone. Most of Hillsborough got 10 to 15 inches, with gusts generally 80 to 100 mph. Pasco County got 8 to 12 inches.
After Helene and Milton, storm debris in unincorporated Hillsborough County topped 4.8 million cubic yards. Pasco County collected about 1.3 million. UF/IFAS notes that pines can look fine after a hurricane and decline over time. It also lists a lean, especially on soaked soil, as a warning sign.
When a tree lands on a roof or a barn, we make it safe first and then finish the removal. We document the damage before we cut, and we have worked with homeowners insurance companies on storm jobs. For emergency tree service, call or text and we tell you when a crew can be there. Downed power lines are the utility's job first.

A Sharper Image Tree Service did an excellent job for us. They trimmed and pruned a variety of trees including large live oaks, fishtail palms, areca palms, robellini palms, and crepe myrtles all with great success and many of which were not easy to get to on our property. Tyler and his crew arrived on time, were professional, and very careful not to damage the lawn or any of our property with their equipment.
