Forestry mulching turns thick brush into a layer of mulch right where it grew. The brush cutter on our compact track loader grinds saw palmetto, vines, scrub and small trees in place. The mulch stays on the land as a ground cover, so that brush needs no hauling. Our forestry mulching services take on a single overgrown lot or many acres, from Tampa up to Crystal River.
Every forestry mulching job starts with what stays. Show us the oaks, pines and palms worth saving, and the brush cutter works the ground around them. Big trees that have to go come down first, with tree removal. Call or text (813) 293-2948 to set up a free estimate.
Tell us about the tree, the lot or the structure and where it is. We look at the job and put the estimate in writing.
Underbrushing, or underbrush clearing, takes out the low growth under your trees. Saw palmetto, vines, scrub and young trees get ground down. The big oaks and pines you choose stay where they are, and the woods open up again.
UF/IFAS calls saw palmetto a highly flammable species that creates a greater wildfire hazard than other shrubs. Shredding it cuts the brush height, but the fuel stays on the ground as mulch. Near a house, Florida's Firewise advice says to remove large groupings of saw palmetto. There, we can cut the palmetto and haul it off instead.
You decide how open it gets. Some owners want everything under the canopy cleared; others want a trail or a view cut through. Brush tight against a trunk may need hand work with chainsaws.
Brush mulching leaves a layer of shredded wood and leaves over the ground. Stumps stay at or near grade, and the root systems stay below. A UF/IFAS Extension publication says mulching works on woody plants up to 12 inches across.
That suits the brush and small trees along fence lines, trails and pasture edges. It also suits the back of a house lot the brush took over. Lot and acreage mulching opens that ground up and leaves the cover in place.
Some jobs need more than mulch. If the stumps are in the way, stump grinding takes them down below the surface. A house pad needs bare ground, so a homesite gets full land clearing and grubbing instead. Before a new home goes up, site preparation rough-levels the cleared ground for the builder's crews.
Each county here handles clearing its own way. Hillsborough County, outside city limits, uses a Land Alteration without Construction permit for clearing land when no house is planned. Ask the county whether your mulching job counts; we can walk you through its permit page. The county does list invasive Brazilian pepper among trees exempt from tree removal permits, wetlands excepted.
Pasco County has no lot clearing permit of any kind, but its tree rules still apply. If the parcel has no house, removing a permit-required tree takes an address and a site development permit. Citrus County does not issue land clearing permits; it issues permits only when someone is going to build.
A wet low spot may count as a wetland. The Southwest Florida Water Management District requires an Environmental Resource Permit before construction activity that would affect wetlands. Under state rules, a pile of land clearing debris can be burned only with a Florida Forest Service authorization. Forestry mulching grinds the brush in place, so no pile is left to burn.
