Stump Grinding
We grind tree stumps below grade with our stump grinder, one old stump or a lot full of them. We rake the chips into the hole or haul them away.

Tree removal is the fix when an oak leans over the roof or a pine has turned brown. Sometimes half the tree came down in a storm and the rest is hanging. A Sharper Image Tree Services takes down trees of any size, from Tampa north to Crystal River.
We are a tree service company based in Tampa, with a second shop in Homosassa. Our crane lifts big trunk sections over houses and pools, and compact machines fit through a back-yard gate. When the tree is down, we haul the wood off and can grind the stump below grade. Call or text (813) 293-2948 for a free estimate.
Tell us about the tree, the lot or the structure and where it is. We look at the job and put the estimate in writing.
Dead branches over the driveway are the easy sign to spot. A split trunk or a hollow at the base is another. Other trees come out because roots are lifting the slab or a pool has to go there. Inside Tampa, a removal for an addition or a pool is reviewed under the building permit.
UF/IFAS studies of trees after hurricanes put laurel oak and water oak in the lowest group for wind resistance. Live oak and sand live oak sit in the highest group. A laurel oak typically lives about 50 years and starts to decay around 40. A water oak lives about 30 to 50 years and can break apart from rot as it matures.
Mushrooms at the base of the trunk can point to root problems. UF/IFAS also notes that pines can look fine after a hurricane and decline over the following months. If a storm has already put a tree on the house, start with our emergency tree service.
Tree cutting near a house starts at the top. A climber or our tracked lift takes the limbs off in pieces. Each piece is tied off and lowered on ropes, and the trunk comes down the same way.
When a big tree hangs over the roof with no room below, our crane does the lifting. It holds each section before the cut, then swings it over the house or the pool. The crane sets the wood in the street or the driveway, where the crew cuts it up.
In a fenced back yard, our compact loaders fit through the gate and carry the wood out. On open ground with room to spare, we fell the tree whole. The brush goes through the chipper and our trucks haul the logs away. Then we rake the yard before we leave.
Tampa's tree page says a tree 5 inches DBH or bigger needs a permit to come out, invasive species aside. DBH is the trunk diameter measured 4.5 feet above the ground. Grand trees, the city's biggest protected trees, start at 32 inches DBH. Removing one takes a public notice first, and it may need a city board or City Council decision.
Carrollwood and Town 'n' Country have Tampa addresses but follow Hillsborough County rules. The county's guide says yard trees 12 inches DBH and up on a single-family lot need a permit. In unincorporated Pasco County, palms and most pines are exempt, but other native trees over 5 inches DBH need one. Hernando and Citrus counties set their own rules, and we can walk you through the right permit page.
State law adds one more path for single-family home lots, in section 163.045 of the Florida Statutes. The owner needs a signed assessment from an ISA Certified Arborist or a Florida licensed landscape architect. If that assessment finds an unacceptable risk, the city or county cannot require a permit or a replacement tree. Tampa and Hillsborough County ask for a copy, and our tree removal permit guide covers the details.

I was impressed with the workers. They were respectful of my property. As for the cutting they did exactly what I wanted. The pricing was reasonable.
Very professional and responsive. Quoted fairly & competitively. Showed up on time and did a great job. Highly recommend and would work with again!
I had a tree that was rotten and needed to come down asap. A sharper image gave me an estimate and theirs was significantly less than competitors. Not only did they do the job quickly but they did an outstanding job. So grateful for this tree service. They helped me protect my home!
