Tree Work, Land Clearing and Demolition in Spring Hill

Most Spring Hill homes went up between 1970 and 1999, and about one in three dates from the 1980s. The oaks and pines beside a 1980s house have had about 40 years to spread over the roof. Milton brought gusts of 60 to 70 mph across Hernando County in October 2024, with 76 mph at Brooksville. Maybe the pine by the driveway leans toward the house, or a split oak limb hangs over the pool cage.

A Sharper Image Tree Services is a tree service company based in Tampa, with a second shop in Homosassa. We come down from Homosassa on US 19 and up from Tampa on the Suncoast Parkway. Here we handle tree removal, tree trimming, palm trimming, stump grinding, storm cleanup and lot clearing for new homes. Call or text (352) 322-9876 for a free estimate.

Which trees stand up to wind on Spring Hill's sand?

Most of Spring Hill sits on Candler sand, which the NRCS describes as very deep and excessively drained. The native trees on that upland sand include turkey oak, bluejack oak, sand live oak, longleaf pine and sand pine.

UF/IFAS Extension studies of hurricane damage sort trees by wind resistance. Turkey oak and sand live oak rank in the highest group. Longleaf pine ranks medium-low, while sand pine and laurel oak rank lowest. Three months after Hurricane Ivan, the researchers found 56 percent of the standing sand pines had died.

UF/IFAS gives laurel oak a typical life span of 50 years and says decay begins near 40. A laurel oak planted beside a 1980s house has reached that age. Tree trimming takes out its deadwood and lifts heavy limbs off the roof. When it has to come out, our crane or our tracked lift handles the sections over the house.

Storm cleanup in Spring Hill after Helene and Milton

Hernando Beach and Pine Island sit on the Nature Coast, the Gulf shore of Hernando and Citrus counties. Helene pushed water 5 to 8 feet above normal high tide along the Hernando coast in September 2024. The county ordered evacuations west of US 19, and gusts reached 66 mph at Weeki Wachee.

Milton followed on October 9 with 5 to 10 inches of rain across the county. The Brooksville-Tampa Bay Regional Airport logged 6.49 inches that day, its second-highest one-day total on record.

Once a storm passes, we make the property safe first and finish the removal later. If a tree is on a power line, the utility clears the line first. We document the damage before we cut, and we have worked with homeowners insurance companies on storm jobs. For emergency tree service, call or text and we tell you when a crew can be there.

Do you need a county permit to remove a tree in Spring Hill?

Spring Hill has no city government, so Hernando County's tree rules apply across the whole community. The county's Planning and Zoning page says a Tree Removal Permit is required before removing any specimen or majestic tree.

A specimen tree measures 18 inches or more in DBH, the trunk diameter measured 4.5 feet above the ground. A majestic tree measures 36 inches or more. Sand pines and palms are excluded. The county may also permit removal if a protected tree poses an immediate safety hazard or causes property damage.

Section 163.045 of the Florida Statutes gives homeowners another path. An ISA Certified Arborist or a Florida licensed landscape architect can document that the tree poses an unacceptable risk. For a single-family home, the county then may not require a permit or a fee for the removal. Confirm with the county's Planning and Zoning office first, and we can walk you through its permit page.

Clearing a wooded lot for a new Spring Hill home

Census counts show unincorporated Hernando County, Spring Hill included, permitted 2,066 new single-family homes in 2024 and 1,631 in 2025. A wooded lot has to be cleared before the builder's crews can start.

We take down the trees and cut the brush, then grind the stumps below grade. Land clearing here comes with county and state rules. Hernando County's noxious plant ordinance requires lead tree and Brazilian pepper to be removed from all new development sites.

Candler sand is upland ground, and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says gopher tortoises live in upland habitat. That includes yards, and the state lists them as threatened. They must be relocated before any land clearing, and the property owner gets the FWC permit to move them.

A Sharper Image Tree Service did an excellent job for us. They trimmed and pruned a variety of trees including large live oaks, fishtail palms, areca palms, robellini palms, and crepe myrtles all with great success and many of which were not easy to get to on our property. Tyler and his crew arrived on time, were professional, and very careful not to damage the lawn or any of our property with their equipment.

Spring Hill FAQ

Questions We Hear Around Spring Hill

A few of the questions we hear most around Spring Hill. If yours is not here, call or text and ask.

Call (352) 322-9876

What does tree removal cost in Spring Hill?
The price depends on the size of the tree and how close it stands to the house. A big oak over a roof or a pool cage may need our crane or our tracked lift. Hauling the wood and grinding the stump add to the job. Call or text (352) 322-9876 for a free estimate in writing.
Will Hernando County pick up the branches after a tree comes down?
The county's curbside pickup takes branches up to four inches across, bundled under 50 pounds and four feet long. Whole trees and trunks do not go to the curb. Yard waste from a paid tree service is not collected curbside either. When we take a tree down, we chip the brush and haul the wood away.
Is every Spring Hill address in Hernando County?
No. Spring Hill mailing addresses in the 34610 ZIP code sit in Pasco County, around Shady Hills. Pasco County's tree rules apply there. We work on both sides of the county line.
Do you work in Weeki Wachee and Hernando Beach too?
Yes. We work across Hernando County, from Hernando Beach and Pine Island on the Gulf to Brooksville, the county seat. Weeki Wachee and Masaryktown are in our range too. Call or text (352) 322-9876, our line for Hernando and Citrus counties.
A pine looked fine after the storm. Can it still die?
Yes. UF/IFAS notes that pines can die slowly, over 6 months to 2 years after a windstorm. Some stay green for a year or more, then turn yellow and brown in a short time. If a pine near the house starts to yellow, call or text and we will come take a look.
