Tree Work, Land Clearing and Demolition in Wesley Chapel

Most homes in Wesley Chapel are young: the Census Bureau counts 73 percent as built in 2000 or later. The community sits on flat, wet ground that USDA soil maps show as pine flatwoods with cypress wetlands between. Your yard may hold a pine that grew up among other trees and now stands alone behind the house. Or you bought a few acres and need them cleared before a house can go up.

A Sharper Image Tree Services is based in Tampa with a second shop in Homosassa. We come up from our South Tampa shop on Interstate 75 or Bruce B. Downs Boulevard. In Wesley Chapel our tree service covers tree removal, trimming, palms, stumps, storm work and land clearing. Call or text (813) 293-2948 for a free estimate.

Pine flatwoods and wet ground in Wesley Chapel

USDA soil data puts about 40 percent of Wesley Chapel on Pomona and EauGallie sand, two poorly drained flatwoods soils. Slash pine and longleaf pine are the native trees there, over saw palmetto and gallberry. About a quarter of the ground is wetland soil, where cypress, swamp bay, sweetgum and red maple grow.

In Pomona sand, the water table sits within a foot of the surface about three months in most years. UF/IFAS hurricane research says a deep water table and uncompacted soil help trees stand up to wind. The same research found trees growing in groups outlasted lone trees in Hurricanes Ivan and Jeanne. It also warns against cutting main support roots during construction.

A separate UF/IFAS guide says a leaning tree in saturated soil is more likely to fail. When a pine or an oak leans toward the house, we take it down in sections. Our crane lifts the heavy pieces over the roof, and our compact machines fit through a back-yard gate. Trees that stay get their deadwood trimmed out, and we haul the brush away.

Land clearing and site preparation for new homes in Pasco County

Pasco County permitted 6,191 new single-family homes in 2025, more than any other county from Tampa to Crystal River. The Census Bureau's permit survey puts 5,737 of them in unincorporated Pasco, which takes in Wesley Chapel. The Census counted 64,866 people in Wesley Chapel in 2020, and its latest five-year estimate is about 76,000. Nine percent of the homes here were built in 2020 or later.

We clear house lots and acreage for landowners and builders. Our crew fells the pines and hardwoods, and our compact track loaders take out saw palmetto with a brush cutter. A grapple moves the logs and brush, or forestry mulching grinds the underbrush where it stands. Stumps are pulled or ground, and the debris is chipped or hauled off.

Once the plan and permits are set, site preparation for a new build readies the lot for the builder. We grub out the roots and rough-level the cleared ground, and the site plan shows which trees stay. The pad, fill, drainage and utilities belong to the builder and the other trades.

How did Hurricane Milton hit Wesley Chapel?

Hurricane Milton soaked Wesley Chapel in October 2024. The National Hurricane Center logged 13.90 inches of rain at a gauge 1.7 miles east-southeast of Wesley Chapel. Another gauge 2 miles southwest caught 11.40 inches. The National Weather Service logged peak gusts of 55 to 65 mph across most of Pasco County.

Pasco County collected about 1.3 million cubic yards of storm debris after Helene and Milton. The county administrator called it the most storm debris Pasco had ever seen. The cleanup also removed more than 9,000 hazardous trees and branches.

For emergency tree service, call or text (813) 293-2948 and we tell you when a crew can be there. We document the damage before we cut, and we have worked with homeowners insurance companies on storm jobs. If a power line is down, the utility company handles it first. Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, and storm season fills the schedule fast.

Do you need a permit to remove a tree in Wesley Chapel?

Wesley Chapel is unincorporated, so Pasco County's tree rules apply, under section 802 of its Land Development Code. Permits go through the county's Building Construction Services office, which lists an average review of 3 to 4 business days. Pasco's checklist says native trees of 5 inches DBH or larger need a permit. DBH is the trunk diameter measured 4.5 feet above the ground.

Non-native trees are exempt, and so are palms and pines other than longleaf pine. Those exemptions end when the tree appears on a county-approved landscape plan or home site plan. That matters in newer subdivisions, where trees the developer planted need a permit even below 5 inches DBH.

Every permit comes with a replanting requirement unless the county grants an exemption. Pasco does not accept allergies, leaf drop or looks as reasons to remove a protected tree. Wetlands and grand trees get extra review. We can walk you through the county's permit page, and the permit is sorted out before work starts.

A Sharper Image Tree Service did an excellent job for us. They trimmed and pruned a variety of trees including large live oaks, fishtail palms, areca palms, robellini palms, and crepe myrtles all with great success and many of which were not easy to get to on our property. Tyler and his crew arrived on time, were professional, and very careful not to damage the lawn or any of our property with their equipment.

Wesley Chapel FAQ

Questions We Hear Around Wesley Chapel

A few of the questions we hear most around Wesley Chapel. If yours is not here, call or text and ask.

Call (813) 293-2948

Do I need a permit to clear land in Wesley Chapel?
Pasco County says it has no lot clearing permit of any kind. On a lot with no house yet, removing permit-required trees takes an assigned address and a site development permit. Gopher tortoise burrows are protected, and the FWC requires a permit for work within 25 feet of one. We clear lots for your build once the permits are in place.
What does tree removal cost in Wesley Chapel?
The tree's size and how close it stands to the house set most of the price. A pine over a pool cage takes rigging or our crane, and a pine on open ground can be felled. For land clearing, the acreage and how thick the saw palmetto grows drive the number. Call or text (813) 293-2948 for a free estimate in writing.
A pine by my house looked fine after the last hurricane. Should I keep an eye on it?
UF/IFAS research found pines can look green after a hurricane and die 6 months to 2 years later. Some stay green for a year or more, then turn yellow and brown fast. The likely cause is hidden damage from bending and twisting in the wind. If a pine near the house starts to yellow, text us a photo and we will come see it.
Do you come to Wesley Chapel for one stump or one palm?
Yes. One stump in the front yard or one palm dropping dead fronds on the driveway is a job we take. We grind stumps below grade and rake the chips back into the hole or haul them off. Send photos by text if you like, and the free estimate comes in writing.
Can I skip the Pasco permit for a dangerous tree?
Under s. 163.045 F.S., owners of detached single-family homes can skip the permit for a tree posing unacceptable risk. The owner needs an onsite assessment signed by an ISA certified arborist or a Florida licensed landscape architect. Pasco's permit staff can confirm how the law applies to your lot. We can work from that assessment when you have it.
